Mahidol Hosts Special Film Screening on Ignac Semmelweis with Distinguished Guests from Hungary

At Mini Theatre, March 12, 2025 – Mahidol University, in collaboration with the Embassy of Hungary and Semmelweis University, successfully hosted a special film screening on the life and legacy of Ignac Semmelweis, the 19th-century physician whose groundbreaking discovery revolutionized modern medicine.

The event was honored by the presence of His Excellency H.E. Dr. Sandor Sipos, the Ambassador of Hungary to Thailand and Prof. Béla Merkely, the Rector of Semmelweis University, who joined faculty members, students, and guests in witnessing the compelling story of Semmelweis’s relentless fight against puerperal fever.

Held at the Mini Theatre, Mahidol Learning Center (MLC), the screening took the audience on an emotional journey through Semmelweis’s struggles and triumphs. His discovery of hand hygiene as a lifesaving practice—initially met with skepticism—eventually became one of the most important advancements in medical history.
