Based on the success of the “Clean and Clear” project in 2008 and the strategic development in 2012-2020, the university has the idea to apply the knowledge and experience gained from the implementation of the various projects to serve the community and to enhance the quality of life and develop the environment. Initially, the pilot plan is to apply the knowledge in the establishment and management of the recycling waste bank project for schools surrounding the university along with demonstrations and guidance on the implementation of the project as well as to cooperate to achieve practical and sustainable results. The main goal is to involve students, teachers and parents participated in the waste reduction process and generated income from the waste separation in order to improve the quality of life, build a low-carbon community, promote community engagement among schools, families, and communities under the concept of “Eco Town – Mahidol and Community Engagement”.
The Recycled Waste Bank Project currently houses 8 schools in Nakornpathom, 22 schools in Rayong, and 3 schools in Buriram.
The university has introduced the Recycled Waste Bank Project to the community according to its Eco Town policy, by sharing waste management knowledge, implementation of the waste bank project and relevant systems as well as introduction of necessary tools/equipment, such as recycling waste bank program, passbooks, scales, etc. The policy aims to support the establishment of a recycled waste bank program and transfer knowledge about waste separation and creation of a recycling waste bank project to the pilot schools, in order to improve quality of life for the target community and schools, create engagement between Mahidol University and the community, and comply with the government’s policy on solid waste and hazardous waste management.
