More than 20 million people of Thai population are suffering from allergic respiratory diseases including allegic rhinitis (20 million) and atopic asthma (4 million), resulting in the cost of treatment to be over 2,400 million baht per year. Allergic symptoms occur by the triggering of various kinds of allergens such as; 1. ‘Dust mite’ the most common allergen of which, 70% of allergic children and 70-90% of allergic adults are sensitive to. Some allergic patients are also sensitive to grass pollens (15-20%), cat/dog danders (5-10%), and cockroach (40-60%).

Allergic diseases can be treated and the prevalence can be reduced with allergen vaccine. Prior to give allergen immunotherapy, patients will be tested with allergen extracts. Both allergen extracts and vaccines are nowadays imported with high cost, some of which are not matched with Thai patient’s sensitization. Therefore, the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital has produced these products for using in Thailand.

Project : Once all the above allergen extracts and allergen vaccines have been produced under GMP criteria, they will be proposed into the National Health Coverage system for using in all hospitals in Thailand in order to reduce the expense of such these imported products.

Expected Outcome :

Items Activities Support Needed
1.) Dust Mite Vaccine Clinical trial was conducted and being produced by Greater Pharma Company Quality Improvement for Export
2.) Pollen Vaccine Being produced under GMP FDA Approval
3.) Cat/Dog Vaccine Being produced under GMP FDA Approval
4.) Cockroach Vaccine Being produced under GMP FDA Approval
5.) Allergy Test Kit Manufactured in GMP plant and ready for sale Hospital Use
